A 'real' success for the County!
The AGM of the North Yorkshire Scout Council took place recently at the Tennant’s Auction Centre at Leyburn with just short of a hundred Commissioners, Leaders, Helpers, Supporters and Friends present.
The proceedings progressed under the watchful eye of the County Commissioner - Mark Edwards, Mr Rodney Tennant - Managing Director & Owner of the Auction Centre, and Mrs Jo Ropner - Deputy Lieutenant for North Yorkshire (representing Mr Barry Dodd CBE, Lord-Lieutenant & our County President, who sadly could not attend).
Also present as guests were Councillor Helen Swiers - Chair of North Yorkshire County Council and Angela Lockwood - County Commissioner for North Yorkshire West Guides.
The business part of the evening was opened and the Trustees Annual Report and the Statement of Accounts were received and considered by those present.
Mr John McGrath was nominated as County Chairman, Mrs Rose Codling was elected as County Treasurer and Mr Andrew Young was appointed Independent Examiner.
Ex-officio members of the County Executive were announced as County Commissioner, County Chair, County Secretary, County Treasurer, County Youth Commissioner, and ACC (Watson Scout Centre).
Nominated to the County Executive were David Baker, Andrew Bedford, Marco Di Clemente, Jan Hunter, and George Morris.
Elected to the County Executive were Lister Baynes, Jean Cann, Richard Good, Mark Turner, David Wilkinson, Felicity Hackett, Stephen Hall, and David Leonard
The County Commissioner laid out his plans for the coming year and asked that the 10 new Volunteer County Posts be filled as soon as possible. The County Chairman then made his closing remarks and 'thanks' and the meeting officially finished at 7.45pm
St George's Day Awards 2017 were then presented to 6 people who were present. They were: Christine Leach (Silver Acorn), Shirley Fell (Bar to the Silver Acorn), Anne Shannon, (Silver Wolf), Bonnie Purchon MBE (Silver Wolf), John McGrath (Silver Wolf) and Sue Haddrill (Silver Wolf).
Following the awards, there was a short concluding address from the Deputy Lieutenant for North Yorkshire, Mrs Jo Ropner. She expressed how she had been genuinely moved to hear many inspirational accounts of Scouting leadership and voluntary work. Personally, and on behalf of the Lord-Lieutenant, she thanked all of the leaders and supporters of North Yorkshire Scouts for their invaluable work in supporting the development of young people across the County.
The rest of the evening was taken up by a two course meal and social fellowship in the relaxed surrounds of the Tennant’s Auction Centre rooms.
