North Yorkshire's Public Speaking Competition 2018 for Scouts
The Creative Activities Team is running a Public Speaking Competition. The aim is twofold, to develop Scouts’ public speaking skills and to raise awareness of the some of the principles of Scouting.
This new and exciting competition is open to teams of two Scouts aged (10½ – 14years) or Explorers Scouts (14 – 18) It will showcase the public speaking skills of individuals by speaking before an audience of parents, judges and members of the scouting movement whilst developing ideas of what scouting is all about. It gives participants an opportunity to develop confidence, team work and the ability to persuade and entertain an audience.
There is an entry fee of £10 per team with a maximum of two teams of two scouts per Scout Group or Explorer Unit. Each team will be asked to speak for a maximum of eight minutes on one of the following topics:
• What characteristics make an ideal Scout/Explorer Scout?
• What human quality do we need more of and why?
• How we look is unimportant. It’s who we are on the inside that counts
There will be a competition FINAL held on Saturday 24th November 2018 at the Joseph Rowntree Theatre, York
The competition will be judged a Panel of three (both Scouting and non-Scouting) with the winning team receiving a specially designed and unique trophy, all participants will be presented with a certificate recognising their participation in the event.
