Harrogate and Ryedale District Commissioners in the New Year
This news from Mark Edwards, our County Commissioner, who says:
HARROGATE & NIDDERDALE DISTRICT - DISTRICT COMMISSIONER APPOINTMENT
With effect from Tuesday 1 January 2019, I will be taking on the temporary appointment of Acting District Commissioner Harrogate & Nidderdale District. The recruitment of a new District Commissioner, or a DC team, to lead the District, will take a little time longer, hence this change.
At this time, I would like to express my thanks to Helen Westmancoat who has led the District for the past 4 years since January 2015. Under Helen’s leadership, the District has continued to grow and develop positively, remains on a sound financial footing and has extended further many opportunities for adventure for its young members. The role of District Commissioner is always a challenging one and Helen’s pragmatism and realistic appreciation of the many DC issues she has addressed has been of great benefit to Scouting across the district; for this she has my sincere thanks.
RYEDALE DISTRICT - DISTRICT COMMISSIONER APPOINTMENTS
Following a recommendation by the County Appointments Advisory Committee, I am pleased to announce the appointment of a new District Commissioner team for Ryedale District with effect from Thursday 3 January 2019.
The Scouting and people skills of Marjorie and Mererid will help them to jointly lead and manage the District. As such, I am confident that under their leadership the District will continue to move forward positively so that the adult leaders across Ryedale can continue to provide opportunities for adventure and skills for life for its young members. I would also like to extend my thanks and appreciation to Dean Smith who led the District for the past 3 years until June this year and to Mark Stowell, our Deputy County Commissioner (Programme) who has been the Acting District Commissioner for the past 6 months.
As Marjorie and Mererid begin a new and exciting Scouting challenge I am sure that all members in the District, both uniformed and non-uniformed, will extend to them their full support.
